Jim Gabert

Jim was born in February, 1942 in Lamont, Alberta. He was raised on a farm two to three miles from Elk Island Park. In 1952, he moved to Fort Saskatchewan and in 2011 he re-located to Sherwood Park where he attends Robin Hood Learning Centre. Most evenings, Jim listens to old-time fiddle music from his extensive collection: “I have everything from Don Messer to French, Ukranian, Metis, and Irish fiddle and accordion.” He reads everything from non-fiction science, nature, aviation, and world travel.

Jim has been a painter since he started at Robin Hood over fifteen years ago. When he first came to the Nina Haggerty Centre, he liked to draw arrowheads and spearheads, items he had found during his travels throughout Saskatchewan. He has become a strong Nina Haggerty painter who now focuses on animals and birds.
